Good practice day 10/23/2011
I went out to Bandel for what turned out to be my last flying day with the club ships this season. I went up in our Astir 102. Conditions were cold and fairly blue, but Cu’s started forming around 1:30pm. I launched at 1:45 to sniff things out. I was able to get a reasonable flight in by always staying within glide range of the airport. I spent a lot of time focusing on the basics: good circling control, and thermal centering. A 15kt west wind was creating invisible sink and lift streets.
Dave Boehmer launched in the Mosquito to join me, but caught only the end of the good lift. We were both shot down by 3:30.
Of course, my darn iPhone GPS failed to log the flight, so here I’m attaching a Google Earth track showing my major turn points.
